Without Clothes, Without Filters: Our Nudist Adventure in the Austrian Alps (Rain and Cold!)

The Alps have always been a magnet for us. But this summer, we decided to experience them in a radically different way: completely naked. We joined NEWT (Naked European Walking Tour), an adventure that combines our passion for hiking with the freedom of naturism. As nudists, we knew this would be a unique experience, but we weren’t prepared for how transformative it would be.

The group was a community of like-minded people from all over the world (17 nationalities: United States, Ireland, Catalonia, Colombia, Belgium, Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany, China, Australia, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, France), all with the same mindset and love for nature without constraints. From the start, the atmosphere was one of acceptance and camaraderie. Here, in the Alps, social norms seemed to fade away with the mountain air.

Each day, we ventured into the diverse alpine landscape, leaving behind clothes and worries. We walked through meadows full of wildflowers, climbed rocky trails, and marveled at beautiful waterfalls. Even the rain and intense cold didn’t stop us. There’s something invigorating about feeling the cool rain on your bare skin! Most days, we remained naked, feeling nature on every inch of our skin.

By mid-afternoon, we returned to the refuge, ready to relax and recharge. In rotating groups, we shared the tasks of preparing dinner and cleaning up. These community tasks became opportunities to connect and laugh together.

After dinner, we relaxed, chatting with the rest of the group, learning about their cultures and sharing stories. Often, the night ended with someone pulling out a guitar and singing songs, or even with some impromptu dancing.

The connection that formed within the group was profound. Walking naked together created a level of vulnerability and authenticity that we rarely experience in everyday life. We trusted each other, supported each other, and celebrated our differences.

Our NEWT adventure was incredible.

It reinforced our belief in the power of naturism to connect people with nature and with each other.
We learned once again that true freedom comes from accepting ourselves and others as we are, without judgment or pretense.
